cardio diet

Since around May 12th, I’ve been on a serious diet and have been raising the amount of cardio I do each week. I started at about 211lbs. I’m 5′9″. A month later, I’m down to 193 lbs. My ultimate goal is somewhere in the neighborhood of 165-175, so I still have some time to go.

My questions are these:

I have been sticking to about 800-1000 calorie diet 5 days per week while working out twice a per day, doing 1 hour 15 minutes of cardio per session. So that’s about 2 hours and 30 minutes. In these sessions I burn approximately 1900-2000 calories per day. I started using the elliptical machine, now I do both elliptical and treadmill. I normally run about 7 miles in the morning at a 7MPH pace non-stop. In the evening I go to elliptical for an hour or so.

I’ve also started (just today) doing light weigh lifting. I’ll do this three times a week.

I’m obsssesed with losing weight. At first I started getting tired a lot before my workout finished. Now I’ve changed my diet to include more carbs and protein.

My typical diet:
Two Egg Whites / Honey Wheat Toast / Half an apple - Breakfast
Cup of Non Fat Chocolate Milk - Banana - Post work out
Two Honey Wheat Toasts / Whole Apple
Then I work out again
Cup of Non Fat Chocolate Milk - Banana - Post work out
Protein Shake before bed - 110 Calories, about 28g of protein

I mix this diet up a lot, but it stays about the same. Sometime instead of the non-fat chocolate milk I’ll take a protein shake with some gatorade post-work out to replenish electrolytes.

So today… When I went back for the send cardio session, I wasn’t paying attention to my elliptical machine and I let it run to about 1 hour and 30 minutes. I experienced something I looked up as being “Runner’s High”… Which was really… an amazing experience. I stopped as soon as I saw the timer.

Should I have kept going? Is there a “maximum” that I should not be crossing?? Can I do 3 hours of cardio in a day if my body is up to it? Should I eat more carbs?

All this weight I’ve lost, I’m sure has been water weight with a lot of fat. But I’m worried that I’ll be losing muscle weight, which I really don’t want to.

Once I hit my target weight, I’ll switch to pure weigh training and light cardio (about 30 minutes per day cardio only).

I was in the military, so I’m pretty familiar on how to get in shape. I just haven’t exercised much and recently got really uncomfortable when I got on a scale back in May. So 18 lbs later, I’ve noticed a dramatic change in me. I like it and want to keep it up but now I’m just worried that I’m damaging my body.

I’d like serious responses from anyone who does a lot of cardio. I would like to reach about 3 hours of cardio per day for the next month. I’m just worried like I said… Is 800-1000 calories a day really “THAT BAD”. I don’t want to increase my caloric intake. My BMR is 2400 and I’m eating 1000 calories.

What are negative side effects if I keep this up, if any?

I also use the sauna about 20 minutes pre-work out and 10 minutes post work out just to get excess water out. I drink about 2 gallons of water per day.

Any knowledgeable response would be much appreciated, if you have aim.. even better I have a lot more to ask.

Thank you.

cardio diet

My husband eats a lot of dead animals of the not-very-lean variety such as pork ribs, pork BBQ, chicken wings, etc. He is very fit in terms of having a very high cardio endurance (he can ride his bike quite fast for over 2 hours straight) but he eats lots of ribs, pork BBQ, etc. He does have some belly fat but his waist size is below the high-risk measurement of 40 inches. He is 38 years old. My thinking is that if you put that artery-clogging crap in your body exercise might help the situation but it’s not going to make it disappear or make it like he never ate it, right?
he has low bad cholesterol and high good cholesterol. So can he eat whatever he wants and live forever? ;0)

cardio work out

I am 40 lbs over weight and want to get back in shape after having 4 kids. What would be a good schedule for lifting weights. I work out 4-5 days a week. I use the stationary weight machines at the gym. What muscles should I work the same day and how many days should I lift weights to get the maximum results. If anyone wants to write out a schedule for me that would be awsome. Thanks!!
